ONE FINAL FIGHT: HEREFORD LADY WHITEFACES LEAVE IT ALL ON THE COURT IN FIVE-SET HEARTBREAKER AGAINST GREENWOOD

A Season to Remember, A Legacy Left Behind, and a Future Full of Promise
The Hereford Lady Whitefaces may have seen their 2026 volleyball season come to an end, but they didn't go down without a fight! In a five-set battle against the Greenwood Rangerettes, Hereford proved exactly why this team has been a force to be reckoned with all season long.
With everything on the line, the Lady Whitefaces pushed Greenwood to the absolute limit, falling just two points short in a heartbreaking 16–14 fifth-set finish. It was the kind of match that reminds everyone what playoff volleyball is all about: heart, determination, grit, and refusing to back down.
And if there was one thing these Lady Whitefaces made clear, it was that they weren't going to let their season end without leaving everything on that court.
A Battle Until the Very Last Point
Leading the charge was senior powerhouse Teagan Thomas, who delivered an incredible 18 kills in what would be her final appearance in a Lady Whitefaces uniform. Thomas showed the leadership and offensive firepower that have made her such an important part of this program.
But she wasn't fighting alone.
Freshman sensation Layla Mendoza stepped onto the playoff stage and delivered an impressive 13 kills, showing that the future of Hereford volleyball is already making some serious noise.
Junior standout Karizma Rivera added 11 kills, continuing to prove why she is one of the team's most dangerous offensive weapons.
Senior Maegan Hernandez showed her versatility with 4 kills, 2 blocks, and 5 digs, contributing on both sides of the net when her team needed her most.
Defensively, the Lady Whitefaces were nothing short of relentless.
Kadynce Ramirez recorded an outstanding 22 digs, while Kyndall Valdez followed closely with 21 digs. Together, they helped keep Hereford alive through long rallies, powerful attacks, and pressure-filled moments.
The offense wouldn't have been possible without the players setting up those big swings.
Hayle Frausto finished with 19 assists, while Mia Estrada and freshman Adabella Barba contributed 8 assists each.
Every player had a role. Every point mattered. And every Lady Whiteface fought until that final whistle.
This wasn't just another volleyball game. This was one for the books.
More Than a Record — A Season Built on Heart
The Lady Whitefaces close their 2026 campaign with an overall record of 23–20 and a 9–5 district finish.
But numbers alone will never tell the full story of this team.
There were battles won, lessons learned, unforgettable comebacks, and moments when these young women showed exactly what it means to wear HEREFORD across their jerseys.
This season was about more than wins and losses. It was about teammates becoming family, young players stepping into bigger roles, and seniors giving everything they had to a program they helped build.
Saying Goodbye to a Special Senior Class
One of the hardest parts of the season ending is knowing that some familiar faces won't be returning to the court next year.
Teagan Thomas, Jolie Lopez, Mia Estrada, Maegan Hernandez, Kadynce Ramirez, and Kyndall Valdez have all left their mark on Hereford volleyball.
These seniors have given this program their time, their dedication, their leadership, and countless memories.
They have helped set a standard for the next generation of Lady Whitefaces to follow.
Their final game may not have ended with the victory they wanted, but they walked away with something that no scoreboard can take from them: the respect earned by fighting until the very end.
Thank you, seniors, for the memories, the leadership, and the heart you brought to Hereford volleyball. Once a Lady Whiteface, always a Lady Whiteface!
Don't Sleep on Hereford — The Future Is LOADED!
While the 2026 season has officially come to a close, don't mistake this ending for the end of Hereford volleyball's story.
In fact, it might just be the beginning of something special.
Under head coach Alyssa Vallejo, the Lady Whitefaces have a young core of talented athletes ready to step up, take over, and make another run at the postseason.
And the numbers speak for themselves.
Layla Mendoza — The Freshman Powerhouse
302 kills | 44 total blocks | .279 hitting percentage
What a freshman season!
Mendoza has already established herself as an offensive threat, finishing her first high school season with an incredible 302 kills. Her power at the net and ability to produce against tough competition make her one of the most exciting young players to watch.
If this is what she's doing as a freshman, imagine what the next three years could bring.
Karizma Rivera — A Force at the Net
373 career kills | 61 total blocks | 51 digs
Rivera has continued to develop into a major weapon for the Lady Whitefaces. With 373 career kills already under her belt, she brings valuable experience, athleticism, and offensive production.
As she prepares to take on an even bigger leadership role, Rivera could be one of the keys to Hereford's next playoff push.
Lilly Madrigal — The General on the Court
1,258 assists | 100 aces | 937 digs | 213 kills
Every great volleyball team needs someone who can run the show, and Lilly Madrigal has proven she can do exactly that.
With an incredible 1,258 assists, 937 digs, 100 aces, and 213 kills, Madrigal is much more than a setter. She's a leader, a competitor, and a player who impacts nearly every part of the game.
Her ability to distribute the ball, defend, serve aggressively, and contribute offensively makes her a true all-around threat.
She's not just running the offense — she's the general on the court!
Brynlee Swan — Another Weapon in the Making
91 kills
Swan has already shown flashes of offensive potential with 91 kills. As she continues to develop, she gives Hereford another attacking option and adds depth to a young, talented lineup.
Haley Frausto — Ready for a Bigger Role
63 assists | 17 aces | 155 digs
Frausto has shown that she can contribute in multiple areas of the game. Her defensive effort, serving ability, and experience helping run the offense will be valuable as the Lady Whitefaces rebuild around their returning talent.
Adabella Barba — Another Freshman Making Noise
115 assists | 6 aces | 52 digs
Barba is another young player who has already started making her presence felt. With 115 assists as a freshman, she has demonstrated the potential to become an important part of Hereford's future.
With more experience and development, she could become another major piece of the Lady Whitefaces' offense.
Coach Alyssa Vallejo Has Something Special Brewing
Losing an experienced senior class is never easy, especially one that contributed so much to the team's success.
But what makes this Hereford program exciting is the amount of young talent waiting for its opportunity.
Mendoza brings power. Rivera brings experience and offensive production. Madrigal brings leadership and court vision. Swan, Frausto, and Barba bring depth and potential.
Put those pieces together, and there is plenty of reason to believe that the Lady Whitefaces could be right back in the postseason conversation next year.
Of course, talent alone doesn't win championships. It takes chemistry, hard work, discipline, and the willingness to fight for every single point.
But if this year's five-set battle against Greenwood showed us anything, it's that the fight is already there.
The Final Whistle Isn't the End of the Story
The scoreboard may have read 16–14 in Greenwood's favor, but those final two points don't define the Hereford Lady Whitefaces.
What defines this team is the way they battled through five sets, the way their seniors refused to quit, and the way their younger players stepped up when the pressure was at its highest.
23 wins. A 9–5 district record. One unforgettable playoff battle. And a whole lot of heart.
The 2026 Lady Whitefaces gave Hereford a season worth remembering.
To the seniors, thank you for setting the standard.
To the returning players, the torch has officially been passed.
And to everyone who thinks Hereford volleyball is going to take a step back next season...
DON'T COUNT ON IT.
Because with this much young talent returning under Coach Alyssa Vallejo, the Lady Whitefaces aren't just looking to rebuild.
THEY'RE LOOKING TO RELOAD.
The 2026 chapter is closed, but the next generation of Lady Whitefaces is just getting started.
