HEREFORD STAYS UNDEFEATED! Whitefaces Take Down Friona, 30-20

The Herd is rolling!

The Hereford Whitefaces delivered another statement Friday night, defeating the Friona Chieftains 30-20 on the road to improve to a perfect 2-0!

In the first meeting between the two programs since 1954, Hereford came ready for battle. The Whitefaces piled up 351 yards of total offense, forced costly turnovers and made big plays when the game was on the line.

Senior playmaker Brix Machen stole the spotlight with a dominant two-way performance. The multi-sport standout caught six passes for 57 yards and a touchdown while also grabbing two interceptions on defense. His 19-yard touchdown reception helped send the Herd into halftime with a 20-13 lead.

Quarterback Bennett Bell was nearly unstoppable, completing 11 of 14 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown. He also led Hereford on the ground with 90 rushing yards on only 10 carries.

The Herd’s rushing attack brought the power. A. Avina scored two touchdowns, while Zach Galvan added another score and 41 yards on the ground.

Jaxon Lucio provided a huge spark through the air, recording two catches for 65 yards—including an explosive 46-yard reception. Jonathan Tarango added 30 receiving yards, and A. Banda hauled in a 25-yard catch.

Hereford took control early and never backed down. After carrying a 20-13 advantage into halftime, the Whitefaces extended their lead to 27-13 in the third quarter. Friona attempted a late comeback, but the Herd slammed the door with a clutch 31-yard field goal from P. Garcia to seal the victory.

The Whitefaces’ defense was just as impressive, holding Friona to only 53 passing yards and 234 total yards. Q. Shugart led the charge with 13 tackles

. Lucio Sifuentes added three tackles, six assists and a tackle for loss.

Hereford finished with a 117-yard advantage in total offense and proved once again that this team can make plays in every phase of the game.

The Whitefaces are now 2-0, undefeated and building momentum!

Next up, the Herd returns home Friday, September 11, to face the Plainview Bulldogs.
