New Era Begins for Hereford

The Hereford Whitefaces will open their season Friday night in one of the area’s most highly anticipated games. It will be the first game under new head coach Medley, who inherits a young roster featuring only eight returning players.

Despite the limited number of returners, Hereford enters the season with one of West Texas’ most dangerous offensive weapons. Senior wide receiver and strong safety Brix Machen is a proven playmaker and widely considered one of the district’s best all-around athletes.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 190 pounds, Machen presents a difficult matchup for opposing defenses. According to Press Pass Sports, his combination of height, athletic ability, and vertical leap makes him one of the most dangerous receiving targets in West Texas.

Machen caught 46 passes for more than 800 yards and nine touchdowns last season. One of his biggest performances came during Hereford’s victory over Lubbock High, when he recorded seven catches for 161 yards and three touchdowns.

His athletic ability extends beyond the football field. Machen qualified for the UIL Class 4A State Track and Field Championships in the high jump last spring and set a Hereford school record with a jump of 6 feet, 10 inches. That elite jumping ability allows him to win contested catches and create problems for defenders in the red zone.

Machen will contribute on both sides of the football as a wide receiver and strong safety. With his size, speed, versatility, and proven production, he will be the player to watch when the Whitefaces take the field under the Friday night lights.

As the Medley era officially begins, Hereford will look to its returning leaders to help guide a young team. All eyes will be on Machen as he attempts to begin another outstanding season and help the Whitefaces open their new chapter with a victory.
